On Tuesday the 14th we left school early to get ready for our trip to California. We left our house at 3:00 PM to go to the Cedar Rapids airport. We had to wait at the airport for about two hours, because we arrived early. We went thought security and we had to take off everything but our clothes. We flew on United Airlines. We had to wait another half hour before we could board the plane. When it was time to board the plane we gave the person our boarding pass and we went on. When we were on the plane we put our carry on above our head and we sat down in our seats. I got a window seat and it had a slid to close the window.
We finally took of at 7:00 PM. It was my first time flying and it was fun. I saw lot of lights going by at 400 mph and 25,000 ft. It took one and a half hours to get to Denver. We got off the plane and went to our assigned gate. When we got to the gate, we waited a half hour to board our next plane.
We got on our plane to San Diego and it took us two and a half hours to get there. It was 11:00 PM when we got to San Diego, 1:00 PM back home. We rode a shuttle to a car rental place and got a dodge van. We drove though San Diego and found our hotel. It was 12:00 AM when we finally got to bed.
We woke up around 8:00 Am Friday. We went to the beach and saw the Pacific Ocean. It was a lot of fun. It was also very cold. The first time a saw it was really cool because then I had seen all the waters that bordered the US.
After the beach we went to the San Diego Zoo. The zoo is very large and has many animals. We saw African, Australian, Arctic, and South American Animals at the Zoo. The Zoo was a lot of fun. It was also a lot of walking and we didn't see the whole Zoo. Our feet hurt by the time we got done. I liked the Polar and the panda bears the best. If I ever go back to San Diego I’m going to the Zoo again.
After we went to the Zoo we went back to hotel room for a little while. Then we went out to eat at Outback and it was really good. I had a blooming onion and a sirloin stake. I ate a lot and I was fat for one day. We went to Target to get some water because at the hotel it was two dollars a bottle. When we got back to the hotel we watched TV for a while. We finial went to bed around 10pm. We woke up around 7am and got ready to go to the Marine Corps base. When we got to the base we had to go though security. We got out of the car and opened the hood, the trunk and put our cell phones on the dashboards. After we got cleared we went though the gate and found a place to park. When we got there we listed to a speech and saw Harlan running by on a four mile run. We waited until they were done and took a shower then we could go hug him.
We hanged out with him on base for a while. We went in to a store and bought a lot of Marine shirt. We went out to eat on the base. It was descent but not as good as outback. We had to leave the base around 6pm because they had to start going back to the barracks. We went to the hotel and order pizza. The next morning around 7 we went back to the base. We went though security again. When we got cleared we went to the parade grounds and saw the graduation ceremony. It took a long time to get though it. After the ceremony we went back to the van and left the base with Harlan.
We turned the van in at the car rental place. We took a shuttle to the airport and got your boarding passes. We at McDonalds before we entered the united terminal. We waited two hours before we could board our plane to Denver when it was time to board we got on the plane and we took off at 3pm We waited at Denver for 1 hour and got on our plane to Cedar Rapids. It felt to be back in Iowa when we landed. We got our bags and went to the car to drive home. After one and a half hours we were home.
